Mikael Oerum Appointed Chairman

Mikael Oerum is co-founder and Partner of Ventac Partners since 2002. He holds more than 30 years of executive experience in the biotechnology and finance sectors. He has a proven track record in identifying business opportunities, developing and executing strategic business plans, fund raising, and international deal making. Since 2005, Mikael Oerum serves as CEO and Chairman (and co-founder) of Avexxin.  

Mikael Oerum is serving as Board Member and Chairman of several biotech companies. These include Regenesance B.V. (Holland), Neuroscience Technologies S.L.P. (Spain), and Neuroscience Technologies Limited (UK), APIM Therapeutics AS (Norway), HUNT Biosciences AS (Norway) and Idogen AB (Sweden). 

In 2000, he was appointed Vice Chairman of Medicon Valley Alliance, and he has since 2007 been a member of the Board of Representatives of the Danish Technical University (DTU) and since 2001 of the Advisory Board of the Institute of Micro- and Nanotechnology (DTU). He serves as advisor to several universities on matters of commercialization of life science research as well as to several life sciences companies. Mikael Oerum is a frequent speaker and moderator at conferences and at university staged entrepreneurial courses within biotech and medtech.

Prior to co-founding Ventac Partners, Mikael Oerum co-founded Exiqon A/S. The company is listed on the Nasdaq OMX Stock Exchange. He served as CEO of the company until 2002. Furthermore, in 1999 he co-founded Cureon A/S, now Santaris Pharma A/S.

Within the life science sector Mikael Oerum has over time served on several government committees, and has participated in international projects focusing on healthcare, industrial growth and biotech initiatives. Among these he has headed two major projects in 2003-04 and 2008-09 covering Hong Kong and mainland China for HKSAR/HKSTP. 

Until 1995, Mikael Oerum held several executive positions across the financial and electronic engineering sectors heading organizational, IT and other technology departments and projects. 

Mikael Oerum has an education in banking, finance and law from Copenhagen Business School, Danish Bankers Academy, Copenhagen Business College and Copenhagen University. Furthermore, he has Military training and officer’s education from the Royal Danish Guard and Home Guard Region VI and served for a number of years as a Staff Officer in the Military Command of Greater Copenhagen, Operations and Intelligence.
